Week 4:
This was our final week of training camp it honestly couldn’t have been better. It was completely different than what we’d done before. This weeks focus was labeled outreach. Every afternoon, Monday through Thursday, each team would either go out into the town and help out some way in the community or stay back at camp and prepare one of the meals for the day. My team got the opportunity to try Street evangelism, yard work, and preparing breakfast. Street evangelism was definitely my favorite one. Banks drove us into downtown Gainesville on Monday and sent us away in groups of three to find people to speak to about God. I was with McNick and Luke and we didn’t really find anyone that day but I was able to help an older lady put her walker in her car. Banks drove us out again on Thursday but this time we went to this town called Helen. We split off in teams of two and this time I was with Dom. We walked the streets for a bit and we ended up talking to this street guitarist named Bobby Wesley. He’s an older fellow and I’ve never seen someone more alive. Turns out he was already a believer we got the opportunity to hear his testimony and wow has that man lived a wild life. We spoke with him for what felt like hours and after we prayed over him another street guitarist named Tyler. Also a believer and we were able to talk with him about the Lord and his wonders but shortly after we had to head back to camp. The rest of the week was pretty slow. We went to the lake on Friday which was tons of fun and on Saturday we prepared ourselves to leave for Kentucky. Week 5 we will be working with this organization called Samaritan’s Purse and I’ll let you know what happens.
Samaritans purse is one of my favorite charities. Being Catholic we support Catholic charities but in 2016 the communities along the Comite and Amite rivers flooded, and I mean bad. Samaritans purse moved into the area and immediately started helping recover from the flood. They brought in skilled workers to help people rebuild and helped people with their nutrition needs. This made such an impression on me that I decided they would be one of my favorite charities.
